MiskatoniCon done!

This past weekend we pulled off something fantastic. A Lovecraft convention! Three days of films, lectures, a nice artshow and a Lovcraftian musical!

MiskatoniCon is the first swedish Lovecraft Con ever and it went well. H.P. Lovecraft Historical Soceity helped us with alot. They showed and talked about their new film The Call of Cthulhu (it is amazing!). They wrote a LARP for us and the musical we played; A Shoggoth on the Roof is theirs as well. Thanks Sean and Andrew!

Many thanks to all the visitors and welcome back next year!

Kong is back!

On the latest of the incredible production diaries for Peter Jackson's King Kong you get to meet the original King Kong! Monster man extraordinaire Bob Burns has travelled to New Zeeland with his King Kong armature! The original puppet used to animate the big ape in the 1933 King Kong. Go check it out!

You find this production diary (Post Production Diary - 8 Weeks To Go) and all the other at: Kong is king

I just can't wait till the movie is out in december. Maybe I'll see the original to night again...

Trouble with pictures

I have tried to upload a new portrait a couple of times. It just won't work. Let's try this way.

A noble monster. Maybe the Innsmouth look again.

Work, work, work

Hum, ten days with out any entries. My bad. The workpile is growing. A good thing but the stress is also building.

I have finished the posters for MiskatoniCon and started on the tickets. I have a week to finish the illustrations for horror zine Minotauren. Next week I will start at a proper job. Newspaper add-work one day a week.

I have a kid's book about wind (not that kind) that is to be finished next month. Fun stuff.

This weekend I will finally see the 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead. I am looking farward to it. I'm not much of a gore-lover so what I have read about the movie has put me of it a bit. But, what the hell.

I have to draw more monsters...

A little angry

I was going to have a small exhibition in a bookstore with my horror artwork next week. Today the store mailed me and said that they have stopped having exhibitions. Grrrrr.

Soldier Dead?

I have made a lot of small monster portraits this year. Framed in old photoframes. Most of them is hardly over 10 cm. I got a "large" oval frame at a flea market this summer. Today that frame got an inhabitant.

The fantastic Radio Adventures of Dr. Floyd just keeps getting better and better. The latest story about P.T Barnum and the Mermaid of Fiji had me rolling with laughter. Poor little Fidgert has problems controling his "bodily" functions(!). I just had to do a pictures to tell the guys behind the show how good they are. Probably my first proper piece of fan art (as an adult). http://www.doctorfloyd.com/fanart

More Lovecraftian horror

Well, tentacles and scared people is Lovecraftian, right? Taking the Wacom out for a spin.

Cthulhu is back (again)

I have updated my horror site a bit. Some new stuff in the intro. And a big honkin' Cthulhu. I try Photoshop coloring from time to time and I don't know... It is not really for me.

Buy some art!

I have started a small Cafepress shop. Right now there is only one print, a journal and one set of postcards for sale. More is on it's way. My goal is to publish small horror artbooks on the site.

Working on some posters...

... for the Lovecraft-convention here i Sweden in November. Here is a small sample.

Zombie gaming

I have started to play a small free online game: Urban Dead. It's a fun game. The mortality rate is quite high. I have two characters. One started as a Zombie, the other one was a military man for about fifteen minutes, now he's a zombie too...

I leave it to the designer to describe the game:
"The city is dying. A month on from the first reported outbreak, military quarantine units have closed Malton's borders, and are moving in to eliminate the looters, to forcibly evacuate those civilians who still refuse to leave their homes.

The city is dying, and the urban dead are filling its streets.
Urban Dead is a browser-based, grid-mapped multi-player game where you play the survivor or victim of a zombie outbreak in a quarantined city centre."

Blog the Fog

I saw The Fog this morning. Great film. I think there is a remake on the move. This 1980 movie by horror master john Carpenter is a very good "campfire-ghost story" movie. Drowned sailors and a treasure. Jamie Lee Curtis plays one of the poor souls torrmented by the ghosts in a small fishing town.

*edit*
Drawing of one of the sailor ghosts.

J-horror

The wave of horror movies from Japan and re-makes from the States has been a good thing for the horror films.

I saw One missed call the other day. Good movie. It has a more western feel to it (you get to see the monster more and a higher body count). It was interesting to see. I liked the american re-makes of The Ring and The Grudge maybe even more than the japanese originals. They have a bit faster pace. I have not seen the Dark waters re-make yet. I really liked the original. We will see.

One film I hope they won't do an american version of is Uzumaki (Spiral). The slow and very wierd feeling of the movie would be lost. I really want to read the mangabooks.

I made a drawing combining different elements from the j-horror movies. It turned out quite nice. I look forward to doing some more Sadaku drawings. All that hair and wierd fingers...

Links added

A small step for blogs but a big one for me: I have added links... well, well...

Time machines and apes

A first small webpage for Anders and my new book Herbert och tidsmaskinen is up. More on that later (We have done some very spiffy buttons!). All in Swedish I'm afraid.

Working on posters for MiskatoniCon and some bookillustrations for a Sherlock Holmes articles book and some horror pictures for a magazine.

I saw some in-game movies from the King Kong game. Not bad. I'm not as hopeful about the game but it looks to be a decent action game. It's Kong for crying out loud!

Apple has added Podcasting to the latest version (4.9) of iTunes. I found
Dr Floyd there. It's a fantastic radio show. Fastpaced action adventure. Very funny.

New Mirrormask trailer

Neil Gaiman reported in his journal that there is a new Mirrormask trailer! Hurray! Dodgy music (not from the film) but new images I have not seen from the film. It really looks like this is going to be good. There is talk of a September 30th release in the US. We'll see when it comes to Sweden. 2006, 2007? Let's just hope for a DVD release soon.

A monster/Lovecraft related announcement: MiskatoniCon. For the first time there will be a Lovcraft convention in Stockholm, Sweden. Films, musical(!), games, art show and lectures. I am involved with the graphic design (website, posters etc). Check it out!

More monsters out there

Finally I have got my horror illustration site up on the web. It is my first English language promotion site.

To visit and check out my artworkclick here.

I have finshed the two children's books I was working on. I am quite pleased with them. The style and technique that I found for them feels good and I hope I get to do more in that style and with the characters. Lets just hope they get some good reviews and sell a lot.

I have been in contact with a guy i the States and I might help him with his PRGproject. The basic idea of the world is great. More later on.

A new year, a new monster

2004 is over. I have been lousy at keeping this blog. I will not promise anything.

---Some Godilla talk---
Last year was the 50th anniversary of Godzilla. 50 years of citystomping monsters. There is talk of ending an era. That the last film will be the LAST Godzilla movie. They say you should stop when your ahead but I hope there is still room for the gigantic lizard on the silver screen.
I went in to Stockholm yesterday and found a copy of the Super 7-magazine. A japanese toys magazine. This issue was a Godzilla special. Great stuff, with contributions by great cult artists like Gary Baseman and Tim Biskup.
Right before the X-mas holidays I got a copy of the new Godzilla game for the X-box: Godzilla: Save the Earth. It might not be the best game of the year but it is a game this really big monsters and that is good. It's great fun. I will leave it at that.

Right now I am tring to find the willpower to finish two children's books I am doing. I am feeling the presure so it's not that fun right now. Hopefully it's better tomorrow.
